LITTLE INFO ABOUT BARBERS HERITAGE

The art of barbering is a long standing tradition in Turkish culture, the brave men who rebelled against the closure of the coffee house barber shops during the Ottoman Empire. Thanks to their protection, the barbers continued to graft on the streets becoming “walking barbers” or hamam (Turkish bath) barbers.

Turkish barbering has long been a skill handed down from generation to generation. A master barber would only pass on his title to his apprentice after many years of training. At The Blade Grooming Lounge, we are proud to be a part of the heritage and share our expertise and history with the gentlemen of London.

As well as being the closest shave you will ever experience, with a full face massage, a Turkish shave is also tremendously relaxing. Additionally, the health benefits for your skin are immeasurable. With the hot towels, astringent lemon cologne and the application of technologically advanced King of Shaves products, every stage of the treatment is designed to exfoliate and cleanse your pores and prevent in-growing hairs.

The majority of men in Turkey would not dream of shaving themselves every morning. Turkish men visit a barber every other day to have a straight edge shave which will last a couple of days. A visit to the barbers is considered a social event where men gather, have a shave and maybe have a haircut, drink tea and have a chat.

Every year English tourists make the most of this tradition while on holidays to Turkey in cities such as Marmaris, Istanbul, Bodrum and Antalya. The shaves in Turkey are becoming increasingly popular for male tourists as a relaxing experience and a must when they visit in the country.

The Turkish shave consists of hot towels applied to soften the skin, a straight edge shave, threading, flaming, nose hair trim, moisturise, cologne and a back, neck, arm and shoulder massage. A traditional shave would include the hot towels, straight edge shave, moisturise and cologne.

Went to the Mill Hill branch this afternoon without an appointment and received some five star gold award treatment. The haircut was very good and the experience from start to finish including massage, hair wash after the cut and fire treatment to baby hairs was insanely relaxing. Will definitely be going back sooner for a cut than normal.

By far the best gentleman's grooming lounge in London without a shadow of a doubt. Been going to these guys for years now and everyone there are top quality, properly trained, authentic barbers.

Great hospitality in the shape of Tea, Coffee (Regular or Turkish) or cold bottled water awaits you upon your arrival! A great haircut always includes a hot towel treatment and a lovely massage at the end. Always a lively but relaxed atmosphere. Just one of the many reasons that I go back there on a regular basis. I would as always recommend it!
